Does the Kiddie Tax end the day my daughter turns 18, or January 1st of the year she turns 18?

I'm concerned about when to sell stock to reduce capital gains taxes. Do I have to wait until my daughters actual 18th birthday or just Jan. 1st of the year she turns 18 before I can sell? I want the capital gains to be at her tax rate, not mine. Thanks
