What were some dangers the soldiers had to face fighting in the trenches during WWI?

Aside from the obvious - enemy fire - they had major problems with disease. Conditions in the trenches were heinous and disease was rampant. in those days, there were no penicillin, sulfa drugs or any of the wonder drugs we have today, and living in wet, cold and dirty conditions killed almost as many men as enemy bullets did.
