Can you cros breed a sucker fish with a b by striping the eggs and sperm from one of the 2 and fertelize em?

i found some sucker fish that spawn in a near by stream and i have hatched them before by stripping the eggs not harming the female. and then fertelizing them with the sperm striped from the male. but would this same process work if i wanted to cross breed the sucker with another fish such as a perch or blugill kind of fish? in not please explain why? and if so would it be safe to ume the life expectancy of the new breed would be short or would i have to try to find out?
