My computer shows low memory, what is wrong?

I have a dell desktop computer with the flat screen. My brother downloaded a bunch of anime videos and I deleted them, but since then my computer is showing that I have hardly any memory. It is'nt bringing up any virus detection. So, i wondered what was wrong with my computer. Why would it show no memory when it is new and has hardly anything on it?
